“Beautiful Loleta, Famous for Dairy and More.”
Fifteen Miles South of Eureka This Town May Be Small, But Has a Lot to Offer.
With one of the most scenic vistas of the lower Eel River Valley, you can see dairy farms, and the Pacific Ocean. Scenic roads and thriving farms with dairies and beautiful sunsets are just a few charming features of Loleta. The downtown with it’s many shops is quaint and fun to stroll through. The Loleta people are friendly and love tourists and visitors. Several generations of families make for a rich history in the city of Loleta.
Some of the Best Hiking Trails…
There are many hiking trails located in Northern California, but The Eel River Wildlife Area is a favorite. With 6.3 miles out and back it’s a great hike for all levels. The trail is primarily used for off road driving and is accessible year round.
A Bird-Watcher’s Paradise…
Hookton Slough Wildlife Sanctuary is possibly the most spectacular bird sanctuary in northern northern California. Nice tidal channels for kayaking, good trails, and beautiful water fowl of all kinds. A great place to walk the trails, all on flat land, and view wildlife and the wetland habitat on the southernmost end of Humboldt Bay. January to March is the best time to come, as all the birds come there for the winter.
Dining and Accommodations…
Loleta is small and off the beaten path. Charming for those who seek natural beauty, decidedly rural rustic character. It has not attracted the attentions of the large hotel or restaurant franchises (which you will find plenty of in nearby Eureka to the north). There is a hotel casino and some fun and funky local eateries. See our recommendations.
