“A Vacationer’s Paradise and Home of Dune Fest!”
Art by the Bay will be held Labor Day Weekend in Winchester Bay. The Friday and Saturday event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Beach Boulevard and Philip Boe Park.
Winchester Bay is an unincorporated community with undisturbed beaches, abundant wildlife, lake and ocean fishing, Lake Marie, nearby hiking trails, many campgrounds, 3 beach parking areas, and vast stretches of off-road riding. Winchester Bay is a Vacationer’s Paradise. It has Some of the best dunes for riding on the coast – a terrific place for the off-road riding fun for ATVers. Winchester also has an inviting village full of shops and restaurants, offering tasty treats from the sea and unique gifts.
Location, Location, Location…
With recreational vehicle use on the nearby sand dunes, tours of the Umpqua River Lighthouse, and crabbing in the bay as the primary attractions, Winchester Bay, formerly referred to as Whistling Basin by the small Native American population, has seen a marked increase in tourism despite being a sparsely populated outpost. The merchant association has dubbed the community as the “”Crab Capital of the World.”” The largest annual activity is the annual Dune Fest, usually a five-day event.
All That…and a Lighthouse…and Great Camping Too!
Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is located less than a mile from the famous Salmon Harbor on Winchester Bay. The campground and developed day use areas are centered around beautiful Lake Marie. Access to this small freshwater lake is provided for angling and non-motorized boating. There is also a small sandy beach set aside for swimming or just relaxing.
Complete Marina Facilities…
550 moorage slips are available in Salmon Harbor for short-term or long-term occupancy, at competitive rates. Both wood and concrete docks, with shore power and domestic water, are available.
Dining and Accommodations…
Being a small “”unincorporated community”” Winchester Bay has been overlooked by the big fast food chains. There are 8 independently owned restaurants (7 of them specialize in seafood it should be noted). There are also 3 lodging establishments (none of them are big chains) and an abundance of nice places to camp out or park your RV.
